Back to school!

Hello phantom readers!

So I went to the mall yesterday to shop around for school supplies. I have school tomorrow!

I hear sighs from students all over the world…😂

Okay. Even if vacation is over, I’m sorta excitedto start the school year. Another new journey is ahead and this is gonna be a harder year but I know Ill get through it. I really am set to get into the Dean’s list this year. I almost made the cut last semester. I gotta fight harder now.

Anyway back to my mall story….

I just bought these…

Jpeg
Jpeg

(Sorry for the blurry picture. I’m gonna write this post fast because I got stuff to do)

Well I didnt buy the bag or the leather thing and my pouches but just the stuff.

I bought the school things from National bookstore and some essentials from Watson’s and mercury drug. I bought my shoes in the SM department store.

Just in case a UST student happens to pass by this blog and is trying to figure out what kind of stuff to buy, Ill give you my list:)

*Notebooks (I recommend fillers because some instructors/professors require to pass notebooks but that’s rare)

*Planner or a special notebook( to jot down assignments and thugs due. I recommend keeping track of your absences as well. You’re only allowed 20% of the school year. Don’t be tardy because 3 tardies equals 1 a scent.)

*yellow pad paper. (We use this more now)

*intermediate pad paper( some professors who like being different use this still)

*index cards(in all sizes)

*pens(mostly black but don’t forget a red pen)

*highlighters( very helpful in putting emphasis on readigs and notes)

*correction tape/ fluid(for one writing mistakes)

*Pencil(#2 for exams that would be checked through scanner)

*Eraser

*glue stick(for sticking your ID pics to index cards)

*1×1 and 2×2 ID pictures

*umbrella. Yes. A school NEED for thomasians!

*post it notes

*Permanent marker

*Whiteboard marker

Basically that’s it for the school supplies.

As for the bag it would be very good for you to get a waterproofed one. You’ll thank yourself for it.

Now, don’t forget your REGISTRATION FORM. ITS YOUR TICKET TO EVERYTHING

Your professors would also sign it during the first days. So its very important

Don’t buy books yet. Wait for then to of the prof. Sometimes they may not require books so its better to wait so that money isn’t wasted.

Bring coins they’ll be useful for photocopying the syllabus and readings.

Bring bottled water and bandaids for girls. Just in case your shoes decide to hurt you.

Don’t take the lessons easy. Some professors teach in a loose way but actually are strict when it comes to grades.

Bring a smile. Make new friends and enjoy. The first year will be the easiest so just do your best.

Enough for tips. I’m just kinda hyped for school! Excited and nervous and scared that this storm would come….that would mean flood and heavy rain and heavy traffic flow.

But its thThomasian way of life. as you get used to it, It’ll be sorta normal and not that big of a deal.

Anyway, I gotta get lots of sleep for tomorrow. Sleep is very precious.

Family problems

Hello people of the internet.

It has been a rollercoaster of experience these past few days. Some big things are happening in my life right now.

To start it off, my parents don’t live with each other. They separated when I was 3, but they aren’t divorced. It isn’t allowed in the Philippines. We only have annulment and legal separation.

Anyways, through the years, my father with the helpful nudge of attornys every now and again, reluctantly gave a share to my siblings’ tuition. Which really isn’t a lot because both my siblings are honor students. They both rank number one in their respectful grade levels.

My father (after the annual fight every Philippine summer) also gives us school supplies from the mini store of my aunt on his side.

Basically that’s his entire contribution for the three of us yearly. According to the law, that isn’t enough but since we have had financial problems for years, we never pushed through on hearings that would force him to properly support us.

But….last two weeks ago, my father made a stand refusing to pay even the little he already does. He blasted off so many lies and told his friends about how he was the one fully supporting us while our mother supposedly did nothing. He called us things as well as insulted my mother through us in a phone call. He said that we were better off not studying or if my mom wanted it so badly, she should take.my siblings out of private school and send them to public school. He said I should get out of my university as well and just go to a public college.

He doesn’t care that we want to receive the best education possible. This wasn’t the first year he tried to push us into changing schools. My mom refused. In all honesty, to get by well in this country, you must study in a private school. That is an advantage later on when you are trying to find work. Also you receive more opportunities in private school, more chances to learn. My father cares not for that.

It would’ve been somewhat understandable if my father was having financial problems too as he claimed. It would be believable if only he didn’t have the latest gadgets or if he wasn’t able to buy that new big flat screen tv or fix up his house and bathroom.

But what really got to me was his insults. I am very protective of my mother. She does everything she can to make us live comfortably. She is the bread winner in the family as well as the bread winner in the extended family with our grandparents and my two aunts who are struggling to find work.

Out of anger at my father having the nerve to talk so badly of my mama, I posted on Facebook. A message that explained everything. It was full of raw emotion, vulgar words and plain old truth. The opposite of this post. I’m A lot calmer and composed.

Everything that had bottled up since I was a child unleashed itself in the form of angry words. I posted it publicly because I wanted to let the people he lied to know what really is the truth.

The post was spun from hurt, frustration, disbelief and the sad feeling of being fed up.

Now my father is angry. Though he is angry about the message and focused on something I said instead of looking at why I said it and what could possibly had been the reason for such an outburst.

He still didn’t get it. I don’t know where this is going but my mother had started talking to an attorney and despite having no funds my mother insists that all three of us will still go to school this coming school year.

I don’t know how my mama is going to do it. Pay for all our tuitions as well as books and school supplies and transportation not to mention food. A lot is on her shoulders.

She refused for me to work though. She said that if I start earning money I may be too excited to still study, I disagree but she insist that I focus solely on studies.

Right now I’m trying to stay positive. Praying for guidance and for my mom. She works overtime and sells a little food on the side. My grandparents have no jobs but derives income from some land we lend out. They help somewhat lessen my mom’s burden though it isn’t really enough.

Everyone is sprung up and I’m losing a little sleep with worrying but the fact that we still have food on our table, a roof over our heads and electricity, water and Wi-Fi. We aren’t being forsaken by the only father I’ve turned to all my life. Despite everything going on, I know we can get through this.

A lot of people don’t believe in God but I’ve seen enough miracles in my life that I believe that there is no doubt someone up there is caring for us.

I’m uncertain of what is to come but I’m not so scared now. Everything I feel, I offer to God. My hurt and pain and anger, everything. As for my father, I offer prayers for him, hoping he could find understanding and maybe peace. I don’t know what to feel for him since our relationship was always strained and after years of being envious of my friend’s relationships with their dads…I don’t know. I’m just going to leave it all to faith and fate.

There you go! ^_^

If you watch the video from the link you’ll see everything that has to do with the file folder as well as what comes within it.

It already has a lot of organizers inside. You don’t have to buy separate envelopes and folders.

For a price of Php 835 ($18.8), I think it’s pretty okay.

I got mine in pink and I love it! ❤

This thing is basically all I need for everything.

If you don’t already know, I am a freshman Literature Major. 🙂

That field of study requires great organization skills because this course basically means PAPERS. papers papers papers day and night PAPERS!

Last semester, I had a bit of trouble in organizing my stuff and I had an accordion file case,

and It was great in keeping my homework, readings and other whatevers in order; but, it also contributed a lot to the weight on my back. I commute going to and from school so carrying a heavy backpack puts strain on my back therefor giving me neck and back pain.

Not fun.

I also had a tiny binder full of fillers for my notes as well as separate folders to put my quizzes and exam papers in. My backpack was always full!

I wanted a single thing to put everything in and I didn’t want to carry that much this coming semester.

Soooo I thought of just buying the dang FILED: File Folder. /^.^/

Being binder, folder, file keeper and bag-ish thingy…in one really is the best thing to get.

I ditched my filler notebooks and just went for one BIG notebook to fit in my binder. My important papers like my registration form and schedule is placed in the envelope filler. I’ll be slipping in my syllabus there. I also added some index cards in the pockets at the left and placed one pencil, two pens, an eraser and a highlighter in the detachable mesh pencil case.

In the 3 slot envelope, I plan to put my homework there.

The front slot will be labeled “IN” as in the incoming homework that I have to do and the back will be “OUT”, the already done homework.

In my big notebook will be my notes from all my nine classes while the filler paper inside the binder will be for like revisions of my notes to be used for review. I’ll just divide the notebook into nine portions.

In college, you don’t really need to write down every single thing your instructor says. You would just end us wasting the paper in the back of your notebooks.

I had a subject wherein I only wrote like, in three pages for the whole term. :-/

I just end up ripping out the notes and using the paper for my drawings, doodles and short stories, songs, poems or whatever at the end of the term. :3

Basically, all I’ll carry in my backpack is the File folder, my planner, my big notebook, my emergency kit and wallet. Oh! Maybe a pad of yellow paper too.

As opposed to carrying a binder notebook full of fillers, nine folders, an accordion file, my pencil case, planner, plastic envelope, emergency kit, wallet and pad papers; I clearly will carry less and now my stuff is like, compact.

It’s also a plus that this file folder is waterproof because my school is soooo flood prone. A lot of stuff was ruined when I was using this bag that I thought was waterproof but wasn’t. Everything got wet! 😦

Definitely a plus.

(By the way, I’m sorry that I can’t put up my own photos to help you visualize what I’m saying, I feel like I’m really not all to clear. I’ll try my best. I don’t have a camera and the one on my phone is crappy. 😦 I’ll be getting a new phone around the 20th of January or so and I’ll start posting my own pics then. 🙂 )

If you can’t get your hands in one of this FILED: file folders, I really recommend you to just buy a big binder as well as the separate stuff similar to what’s inside on my file folder. It really will help to have it all in one place. It also minimizes space in your school bag and it’s cute, handy and my favorite, waterproof!!! 😀
